On a warm Spring day in 1981 a Neat Freak was born…well not quite!
It wasn’t actually until 2004, at the age of 23 years old that being neat and tidy become part of who I was and still am today. However, two small kids in tow can really put a damper on that some days! That Fall, I had just received a teaching job in WNY. I worked 10 months out of the year and wanted to find something to do in the summer months. After tossing some ideas around, I decided to start cleaning many of my neighbors and family members homes. I loved it! I got such satisfaction from helping people do their “dirty work”! Knowing they could focus their precious free time on the things they enjoyed most including spending quality time with their families. Very quickly, I was being referred to their friends and families and my little summer gig started to explode.
How would I continue this once the school year resumed? That is when I decided to look into starting a company. I knew that I didn’t want a franchise. I wanted something special and unique. I wasn’t into the sterile feeling of a cookie cutter company that I would have to do things a certain way. I liked my way and so did my customers. The remainder of that summer I researched, met with business mentors, prayed, thought of catchy names( Jill’s Janitorial Service didn’t make the cut) and finally Neat Freaks was born or the beginning stages I should say!
The beginning was very overwhelming! I was a full time teacher by day and house cleaner in the evenings and on the weekends. I needed to look into hiring employees and finally I had my first paid cleaner. I trained her and showed her everything I knew and eventually she began taking on customers. She was amazing and with another set of hands, I could reach more houses and help more people!
Through the course of many years, I had hired more employees than I can even count. Some lasted a long time and others just a season. Regardless of time with the company, I made it my top priority to not only hire the best cleaners but to make sure that we customize our cleanings to fit the needs of each home. There is no one size fits all and through our inquiry/estimate process, we are able to suggest an appropriate amount of time to complete each customer’s priority list. We also make it our goal to assign the same cleaner to our reoccurring customers whenever possible to build a relationship. This helps us learn a home or offices needs. These are just a few ways we are set apart from the average company.
Now, in 2018, Neat Freaks has become a local house hold name. Our customer service remains top notch and we are incredibly accessible. Customers comment on how quick and responsive we are and that has always been a top priority of mine! There is nothing worse than talking to an automated voice. In September of 2012 I hired a full time office manager. She Rocks! She is actually my mother. If you are a current customer you know just how awesome is. She builds strong customer relationships and many of our customers have been on the schedule for a decade. We have celebrated in their happiest times and grieved with them during their losses. This is what I love most about we run Neat Freaks. Our customers are not just a number to us!
